CHOIR

The Dormition Church Choir is comprised of parishioners, age 16 and upward, who have both a love of our Byzantine church music and a desire to serve their Dormition Church community.  They give generously of their time and talents to help celebrate the Liturgy and the other Services of the Church through the chanting of our beautiful and theologically-rich Orthodox hymns.

Music is sung in both Greek and English, and the Dormition Choir is an active member of the Metropolis of Boston Federation of Greek Orthodox Church Musicians.  Dormition Church Choir members take part in the Federation’s annual conferences, concerts, special services, and annual workshops.

Anyone who deeply admires our Orthodox Faith and our Byzantine hymns is encouraged to join the Dormition Church Choir.  Please contact Richard Barret, Protopsaltis and Director of Music, through the Church Office: office@dormitionchurch.org – or during coffee hour after any Sunday Liturgy.

Remember that if you desire to serve in this ministry, God will give you the grace for it and the music director will teach you the proper Byzantine techniques.  The Dormition Church Choir, of course, does take a time commitment, from Sunday liturgies to weekly rehearsals, but the many rewards are far reaching, and as one of the great saints of the church stated, "The one who sings prays twice.” (Attributed to St. Augustine of Hippo).

“Singing in worship teaches us our faith, helps us imitate the angles in heaven, and inspires us with the beauty of the melody and the words.”
