Omiros Greek School

Mission Statement:  The purpose of our Greek School is for every child to learn the Greek language and, with simple words, our history, mythology and Greek culture.  To learn is to love Greece.  To feel proud of his/her origins.  To learn what Greece has given to the world (democracy, philosophy, etc.).  When our children finish Greek School, they will have embraced Greece in their hearts.

The Dormition of the Virgin Mary Church Greek School was established in Somerville in the early 20th century when the Church first opened its doors in 1916.  Through the years it has provided an academic Greek education to thousands of students from kindergarten through 6th grade.  From the first Greek School teacher and parish priest – Rev. Fr. Konstantinos Kacoyanis in 1916 – through to the present-day teachers, they have all brought their combined love of the Greek language and the youth to fruition with the sharing of their knowledge.

The strong programs of the past decades that educated so many students have now been enhanced to bring the current curriculum into the new digital informational age.

In addition to Greek language, our program includes instruction of Greek culture, dance lessons, songs, games, music, theatre and the use of audiovisual materials.
