To capture the spirit of our Centennial year and to capture our Church's heritage and strong sense of community, each ministry of the Church has been recognized. All throughout this historic year we have continued to honor the past, celebrate the present and embrace the future. Next on the calendar of events (see below) is the ceremony to honor all Chanters and Altar Boys, planned for Sunday, December 4, 2016 after Divine Litugy.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS!
December 4, 2016 - All former and present Altar Boys and Chanters will be honored at the end of Divine Liturgy. Please pass the word to any and all Altar Boys you know so they can attend. We are spreading the word as fast as possible to as many people as possible.
December 31, 2016 - Final date for 100th "Honoring Our Legacy" Album submissions! No pages or Ads will be accepted after this date because publisher prices are rising. No exceptions as we have had a year to do this. Everyone is urged to purchase and submit their ads asap. Time is short.
January 22, 2017 - A panoramic photograph marking our 100th Annversary will be taken of the congregation. Your whole family should be in Church on this date to be immortalized forever in the 100th Anniversary Album!
Now, in December, we continue to solicit Ads for our 100th Anniversary "Honoring Our Legacy" commemorative album. We present you with the opportunilty to purchase sponsorship pages. We want to promote family pages, memorialize ancestors, and incorporate business ads to do justice to the strength of our Greek heritage and legacy. What is your family's legacy? What is your family's connection to our beloved Dormition Church through the century? How do you want your family to be remembered? As you plan your page, have it tell the story of your family. Honor your own legacy and your conection to the Church throughout the past century.
We have beautifully crafted notecards of our stained glass windows for sale - individually and in bundles. Harry Agritha, our professional photographer, is spearheading this incredible effort. These stunning cards can be sent as Christmas cards, for Easter, name days, birthdays, as sympathy cards, or just to say hello and keep in touch. A special larger Axion Estin icon version is suitable for framing and as a special gift for a special person. See Evelyn Galatis or 100th Committee member for details.
The Dormition of the Virgin Mary's Centennial Weekend thrilled all who attended the 3 day events. Friday, October 21, 2016 saw a Cocktail Party to honor all past and present Priests and Parish Council Presidents. Saturday, October 22, 2016 presented the Gala at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library in Boston, MA. Sunday, October 23, 2016 witnessed the hierarchal Liturgy and Luncheon with His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios and Metropolitan Methodios. This weekend was a highlight in our history.
Ancient Greek Proverb - "A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in."
The AXION ESTIN icon is HERE!
In 2014, our Dormition Church of Somerville reached out to the monks of Mount Athos in Greece to commission a painting of one of the most famous icons in the Orthodox Church. Behind it is a moving and uplifting story that has come down through the ages to give peace to the world of today. The 100th Committee sponsored the introduction of this reflection of antiquity as a beginning of the countdown to our 100th Anniversary in 2016.

The life of the Orthodox Church perpetuates and fulfills the ministry of Jesus Christ.
